Bridging English The following websites are aimed at helping students who plan to enter university and want to improve their English and study skills. Using English for Academic Purposes This is an excellent website containing various exercises and information aimed at students who want to study at university and need to improve their language and study skills. Self-Access Centre for Language Learning An excellent website for students wishing to improve their lecture listening skills. Consisting of a number of university lectures, visitors to the website can listen to these lecture in sections, or play it through. There is also transcript for each lecture and comprehensions questions to help check for understanding. The lectures vary in terms of difficulty and can be downloaded and played on any mp3 player. Centre for Independent Language Learning - Grammar Consisting of a variety of interactive exercises, this website is useful for students who plan to study at university and want to brush up on their English grammar. A comprehensive website containing lots of information on English grammar and writing academic essays aimed at students with a high level of English. As well as tutorials there are many interactive quizzes on a variety of areas including grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure. The Online Writing Lab at Purdue This website is administered by Purdue university and has been around for a long time. This webpage contains links to a variety of online grammar and punctuation exercises as well as worksheets that can be printed out (with answers). The Academic Word List consists of commonly used academic words and was compiled with the idea that learning these words would help students prepare for tertiary study.
